Q.Freshwater Species Behavior
What is a thermocline and how does it affect bass in summer?
A.
A thermocline is the depth band where water temperature changes rapidly — typically separating warm surface water from cooler deep water in summer. In stratified lakes, oxygen below the thermocline can drop too low to support fish, so bass concentrate just above it. Find the thermocline depth (often 15-25 feet) and fish that band on structure.
