Q.Tides & Fishing

What species bite best on incoming tide?

A.

Incoming tide brings bait pods up onto flats and pushes them against shoreline structure. Snook, tarpon, redfish on flooded flats, sheepshead at dock pilings, and flounder at incoming-tide drains all feed well on the rising water. The peak window is typically the middle two hours of the incoming cycle.

Inshore species that move in with bait pods (cobia, mackerel near inlets) also concentrate on incoming tide as bait is funneled toward the inlet mouth. State tide guide pages cover incoming timing.
