Q.Fishing Gear & Tackle

What is fluorocarbon leader and when do I use it?

A.

Fluorocarbon is a leader material with refractive index close to water, making it nearly invisible underwater. Use it in clear water where line shyness matters — trout in spring creeks, redfish on flats, bonefish, permit. Fluorocarbon also has higher abrasion resistance than monofilament, useful around oysters and rocky structure. Tie a 2-4 foot leader to your braid main line.

Migration calendar pages cover species where fluorocarbon matters most.
