Q.SST & Offshore Fishing
How do I read an SST chart for offshore fishing?
A.
SST charts show ocean surface temperature as a color gradient. Look for sharp color transitions (temperature breaks) that indicate where warm and cool water meet. Find your target species' preferred range, then identify breaks where that range is present near accessible structure (canyons, lumps, beach access).
Pair SST data with current charts (showing eddies and Stream position) and chlorophyll data (which marks productivity zones). SST threshold pages cover species ranges to look for.
