Tide stage water type guide

Grass Flats tide fishing guide.

Shallow water (1–6 ft) covered in seagrass beds — primarily turtle grass, manatee grass, and shoal grass. Found throughout the Gulf Coast and from northeast Florida south.

How tide moves through grass flats

Grass flats fish entirely differently depending on tide depth. On rising tide, fish move onto the flat following baitfish. On falling tide, fish stage at the flat edges and drain cuts. Optimal flat fishing is when there is enough water to cover the grass but not so much that fish disperse — typically the last two hours of incoming and first two of outgoing.
