Q.Freshwater Trout & Hatches
What time of day do most hatches occur?
A.
Spring and fall hatches typically peak in late morning to early afternoon when water temperatures are at their daily warm peak. Summer hatches shift to evening and dusk to avoid the warmest mid-afternoon water. Tricos hatch at sunrise; BWOs hatch on overcast days throughout the day; spinner falls (the egg-laying stage) usually happen at dusk.
Hatch calendar pages cover species-specific timing patterns on specific rivers.
