Q.Spawn Timing & Fishing
Is it ethical to fish for bass on beds?
A.
Bed fishing is legal in most states but controversial. Removing a guarding male from a bed (even briefly) leaves eggs and fry vulnerable to bluegill predation. Catch-and-release with quick fight times and immediate release minimizes harm but doesn't eliminate it. Some anglers and biologists argue against the practice; others note bass populations remain healthy where it's practiced.
If you bed fish, fight quickly and release the fish back to the bed without delay. Spawn calendar pages cover spawn timing if you want to plan around bedding rather than on it.
