Hudson Canyon & New York Bight Offshore SST guide.

Mid-Atlantic90130 mi offshoreEddy-dependent access

Hudson Canyon is the largest canyon on the US East Coast and one of the iconic Mid-Atlantic offshore destinations. Warm core eddies create the temperature breaks that concentrate yellowfin and white marlin from late spring through fall.

Temperature break patterns active in this zone

Persistent SST features that concentrate baitfish and predators. Use SST imagery to find the break, then fish the warm side.

  • Gulf Stream Western Wall

    5°F typical break

The boundary where the Gulf Stream's warm core meets cooler shelf water on its inshore side. Typically a 3–8°F break that runs from south to north along the East Coast. Bait stages on the cool side, predators hunt on the warm side. Read SST imagery to find the meanders that bring the wall closer to shore.

  • Warm Core Eddy

    7°F typical break

Warm core eddies pinch off the Gulf Stream's northern wall and drift westward into shelf waters. They can hold tuna and billfish for weeks at a time. Locate them on SST imagery as warm bullseyes in cooler shelf water — the eddy edge is the productive zone.

  • Shelf Edge Break

    4°F typical break

The continental shelf edge — typically the 100-fathom line — creates a bathymetric structure where deep water meets shallow. Currents accelerate over the edge and bait concentrates. This break produces year-round even when SST differentials are modest.
