Closed seasons & regulations

No widespread closed seasons during channel catfish spawn. Voluntary catch and release during peak spawn weeks is the widely-followed best practice in conservation-minded angling.

Farm pond management

Channel catfish in private ponds may need supplemental stocking — many pond managers add catfish fingerlings annually because spawn cavities (hollow logs, milk jugs, cinder blocks) are limited in typical pond construction. Pond managers can install spawn cavities to support natural reproduction.
